Holiday Shopping Guide 2011 – The Next Step

Tired of the usual? For the last list this holiday, I am going to link you off to the quintessential board game database on the internet, Board Game Geek, to read more about each game. These games are not necessarily harder, but they have intricate strategies that can only be learned by playing them multiple times. Some are “Classic Eurogames,” some are from the currently popular “Deck Building” genre, and some are just uncategorizable. So dig in and enjoy, and, as always, if you have a question or need a game suggestion just drop us an email!   On each of our Holiday Shopping Guides all photos link to the game on Amazon.com. I ask that if you are not buying from your Favorite Local Game Store and are purchasing online that you buy from our website and support gaming in the Seacoast community. Holiday Shopping Guide 2011 – Party Games

One of the best ways to have fun and spice up those dull holiday get-togethers is to play a simple and fun party game! Here is a short list of great party games to give as gifts and enjoy with friends and family this holiday:   On each of our Holiday Shopping Guides all photos link to the game on Amazon.com. I ask that if you are not buying from your Favorite Local Game Store and are purchasing online that you buy from our website and support gaming in the Seacoast community.   Say Anything by North Star Games – $16.13 on Amazon Say Anything is a fun, lighthearted party game for 3 to 8 players, or more if you use teams. The rules are easy to learn, and the game is hilarious. One player asks a question from a card, and everyone else races to write a response and toss it on the table. The question asker secretly selects a favorite answer, which the other players must then guess. Points are awarded, and the question-asker position rotates. I highly recommend this game. It is also available in a family version: Say Anything Family!   Jungle Speed by Asmodee Games – 18.63 A fast-paced game that creates an on-edge feeling. Each player flips a card face up onto a pile. If the image on the card matches another player’s card exactly, the two players race to grab a totem in the middle of the table. The person who grabs the totem first wins the pile of cards in front of the loser. The game continues until one person has...

Holiday Shopping Guide 2011 – Family Games

Here are some great games to get for your families game collection this year. On each of our Holiday Shopping Guides all photos link to the game on Amazon.com. I ask that if you are not buying from your Favorite Local Game Store and are purchasing online that you buy from our website and support gaming in the Seacoast community. Apples to Apples by Mattel – $15 on Amazon A party game classic! Apples to Apples has been around for a while now and is a staple in any party game kit. The player serving as judge for that turn chooses a green apple card, which has an adjective on it. The other players, who have hands of red cards, each choose their card that is best described by the green apple card. The judge then selects the red apple card he or she likes the most and awards a point to that player. The judge position then shifts around the table. This game is a great get-to-know-you game and is always full of laughter.   Blokus by Mattel – $25 on Amazon In Blokus, players try to place as many Tetris-like pieces on the board as possible while blocking their opponents. A piece may only be played if it touches the corner of one of that player’s pieces already on the board. This game is a hit with children and adults alike, and is challenging for all ages.   Forbidden Island by Gamewright – $13.78 on Amazon In Forbidden Island, players work cooperatively to save four ancient artifacts hidden on a sinking island. Players must navigate a randomly...

Video Game Trade Ins

As I was organizing my DVDs/Video Games over the winter break I found a few that I know had not played or touched in years. I decided it was time to get rid of them so I loaded up a bag and brought them over to my local GameStop. Some games I got a decent price for, but some only warranted .55 cents or so. Geez to think I payed $50+ for some of these and they are now worth next to nothing. I also found out though blind luck that Best Buy is not doing game trade ins. They give a better price for popular games than GameStop from what my research shows. I added a tip to the local Portsmouth Best Buy’s Foursquare profile to help others find this out. Add it to your to-do list today! Check out more about the program which also takes old electronics too at http://www.bestbuytradein.com/ Now to see if I have anything else to get rid of to make room for more board games.. Share...
