Best Games from GenCon – Session Report

When I visit gaming conventions such as GenCon I always find new games. At GenCon this year I managed to bring home a few and last Thursday we hosted a 4 hour game night to try them out. I tried something different this time and rented space at the local Comfort Inn. They gave me a  pretty good great deal, but it was still a payed space which I try to avoid. The space was setup nicely and we had plenty of room to game. Some new faces were in attendance as well as the regulars, and we had a nice crowd for gaming. The first game up was Stomple, a quick strategy game of stomping marbles and being the last player on the board. Soon after the first marble was stomped, Brett from Wicked North Games came in with my signed copy of Azamar in hand and joined in (the book looks awesome congrats!). As we played and laughed, I was happy to see a familiar face from my gaming youth, Jim. I have not seen Jim since his last Jumpgate Games Weekend. Which by a strange coincidence was held in the same hotel room, and stranger still we were playing Stomple in the exact spot as my Toon game that Jim ran some 6+ years ago. He’s back in the area and will be joining us for more gaming soon. Once the crowd grew we split up into two groups to play Red Dragon Inn and Food Fight. Since Keith and Matthew had played Red Dragon Inn at the Game Night at CrackSkull’s IV Wednesday August 31st 6pm-8:30pm. The...
GenCon – Day 1 Quick Recap

GenCon – Day 1 Quick Recap

Hey all, As everyone knows time at conventions are precious so I will do a larger write up later but here are the games we played an some quick impressions. BUY now! Hike by Moosetache Games A fun little card game perfect for hiking trips and anytime you just want to have fun thinking about all the awesome things that are outdoors. Really simple to learn with just a couple of suits, and a few special cards that requires minimal reading required to play. One player plays down card of a certain suit, and there are circles on the bottom representing what suits can be played on top of it. Your goal is to get rid of all of your cards. You then collect points and then play to a score designated by the number of players. I would highly suggest Hike to anyone who loves the outdoors and/or simple fun card games! Buy Ablaze today! Ablaze I really did not get to experience this game as well as I wanted to. The group stumbled through the rules and turns were taking to long. I will provide more info once I am able to play it better. The game comes with 3 scenarios. We played the once where we play wild animals running out of the forest to protect ourselves from the forest fires. I love the theme of the idea, and will be trying it again soon to get a better feel for it. Grab Quarriors now! Quarriors by WizKids A pretty cool idea. Make up 130 custom dice, mix it up with a fantasy theme, and deck...
The Sages Dice Project returns to GenCon 2011!

The Sages Dice Project returns to GenCon 2011!

The Sages of RPG Dice Project from The Sages of RPG on Vimeo. We are excited to announce we will be continuing the Sages of RPG Dice Project at GenCon 2011! For those of you who don’t know what the deal is, we have really cool custom dice from Chessex. Last GenCon I decided to do a project with the dice rather than just handing them out to random people. It was a blast and I met so many awesome people, most of whom I probably would not have met if it had not been for the Sages Dice Project. Also as a bigger goal the students I work with are always interested in learning about the people I meet in my gaming travels. So this project helps  me share who I meet at conventions and events. I ask people to pose for a photo with one of our custom dice, and then catalogue where they are from on our website. Throughout the convention if you find someone wearing a Sages of RPG logo shirt just ask them for a die and become part of history! All we ask is three things from you: Your name Where you are from A photo of you with the die I will be updating this post throughout the convention with information on who has gotten one of our dice. Our goal is to hand out and “catalog” at least 25 dice during the convention. Please help us with this goal! It will be a blast. I’ll tweet where we will be now and then during the con so be sure to follow @SagesOfRPG on twitter and...
